FRANKENSTEIN IN COMICS
Over the decades, Frankenstein as a comic book character, has been both a superhero

and a villain,

and anywhere on the spectrum between the two. The comic narratives have been comedic, tragic, and horrifying. The one element that is consistent among most of the Frankenstein comics is the iconic 1931 Frankenstein 'monster' look.

FRANKENSTEIN IN GRAPHIC NOVELS
There have been several graphic novel retellings of Shelley's Frankenstein. Some attempt to stay 'true' to the Shelley's narrative, and others adapt the narrative for the graphic novel genre and its audience.

One of the most dynamic retellings is Gris Grimly's Frankenstein (2013). The stylized artwork and uniquely modern yet macabre setting and feel give the story new life. According to an NPR interview with Grimly, he wanted to make the narrative more accessible to younger readers. Grimly reincarnated Shelley's narrative in a new time and place, about which Grimly said, "I was gonna make it my own world, my own time period. Something kind of surreal and have an element of rock 'n' roll to it."¹
