The Munsters first aired on CBS in 1964. The television series was about a family of 'monsters' who lived in a suburban town. The premise was the family thought they were 'normal' and everyone else was strange.
Herman Munster, the main character of the show, is a version of Frankenstein's monster. In fact, because Universal Television owned and produced the show, the costumers and make-up artists were able to use the copyrighted and iconic Frankenstein monster look developed by Jack Pierce for Universal Pictures' Frankenstein (1931) and its sequels.

Unlike Shelley's and Whale's monsters, who were ostracized and longed for companionship, Herman is happily married to Lily and lives with her, their son, Eddie, and Lily's father.
